For many, getting married is a rite of passage. And to be included-even in a small way-in something so meaningful in someones life is truly an honor. I've been lucky enough to witness some of the most genuine, heartfelt, and beautiful moments on a brides big day.
I can recall a wedding I worked, the bride was gifted this scrapbook from her maid of honor and she had people write her sweet advice, wisdom and well wishes. As I'm styling hair, she begins to read aloud some of the heartfelt notes, and one that I had found to be funny, sweet, and true, was, "buy a comforter or blanket two sizes larger than your bed - this will solve most of your problems"
Let's talk veils.
As a hairstylist, placing the veil is my favorite part of the day, not because it's the final touch, but because of what it represents. It's the moment the bride truly becomes the bride.
It's when I get to step back and invite mom, a sister, or a best friend in close . A quiet pause before the day begins, where everyone takes in the significance of what's going to happen. The final step in getting ready. (aka, the moment everyone cries).
Something old, something new, something borrowed and Something Blue...
I'll be honest, I never understood the whole "something, something, something" tradition until I began doing bridal hair. What once sounded like a simple rhyme that Cinderella could sing, turned out to be something incredibly meaningful. Truthfully, I've teared up every time watching mom and grandma gently bring out the "somethings" on a wedding morning.
These little pieces carry so much love, history and intention.
Something old - represents continuity, family heritage and a connection to the past (my personal favorite). I love seeing the pieces that have been passed down through your generations, each with a story of its own.
Something new - symbolizes optimism, hope, and the excitement of a fresh begining.
Something borrowed - carries the happiness and good fortune of a lovingly married couple, shared in the most meaningful way.
Something blue - stands for love, purity, fidelity, and fertility - a tradition rooted deep in history.
These small intimate moments and being surrounded with people who support and love you
is what makes a wedding day so powerful
